FAQ's
1What does a Clinical Psychologist do?
A Clinical Psychologist is a registered mental health care professional who works with the psychological, behavioural, and interpersonal aspects of adults and children. Clinical Psychologists have specialised training, on at least a Master’s level, to be able to treat and assess all forms of psychological and psychiatric difficulties and disorders. In order to achieve this, a Clinical Psychologist facilitates clients to work through their difficulties and optimise their level of functioning and interpersonal relationships by means of a goal directed therapeutic process.
2What is it like to see a Psychologist?
Every individual is different and unique in their own right. It is for this reason that the first session is aimed at gaining a full and comprehensive understanding of the client which is characterised by unconditional acceptance, empathy, and respect for the distinctive features of each client. This then continues into a goal directed process by which the client’s difficulties can be dealt with and aims and objectives can be achieved.
3Who can benefit from seeing a Psychologist
Any adult or child who is either anticipating or already experiencing a minor or major level of discomfort regarding their own or someone else’s life and functioning can benefit from psychotherapy. This can for instance range from individuals who are experiencing a significant level of depression to an individual who would like to optimise an already satisfying relationship in the form of pre-marital counselling.

5What is the duration of therapy?
Each therapeutic case is different and unique; therefore the duration of therapy will depend on and be determined by the client, presenting complaint, objectives and indicated therapeutic intervention. My working method however includes a more short-term therapeutic focus except when contradicted by the client’s needs or when the presenting difficulty is of such a nature that it will not be effectively dealt with in 10-12 sessions.
