About Me
It seems like the years of my personal life experiences have steered me towards an inevitable, undeniable compassion for the joys, challenges, and unique functioning for people of all backgrounds and stages of life. This ultimately motivated me to obtain my Bachelor’s and Honours degree in Psychology majoring in Psychology and Criminology (BSocSci & BSocSci Hons), after which I completed my Internship as a Psychometrist at a Psychiatric Hospital where I assessed in- and out-patients ranging from children to adults.
I continued to complete my Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology (MSc Clinical Psychology) and was then selected for an Internship program at a Public- and Psychiatric- Hospital where I treated child, adolescent and adult in- and out-patients with various psychiatric and psychological difficulties. I completed a community service year in the Department of Defence where I worked with various uniform wearing members – and their family – of different rank, age, race, cultural background, sexual orientation, and gender identity.
Within the military context I have gained experience with regards to individuals who underwent a plethora of psychological and emotional difficulties ranging from clinical (i.e., depression, anxiety, and PTSD), occupational- and marital-difficulties to bullying behaviour in children, to name a few. I furthered my career in the military as a full member in the rank of Captain, and continued in the capacity of Independent Clinical Psychologist. Parallel to this I was also in part time Private Practice, after which I continued into full time private practice, where I worked with various individuals and presenting complaints in the general population.
I completed my PhD in Clinical Psychology researching and publishing on the topic of restructured families (families where the biological parents separated and reside in different houses) and their interpersonal dynamics which greatly expanded my perspective about the rich diversity in family structures and relationships. After PhD I expanded my services by providing psychotherapy to clients who have been referred under their respective ACC (Accident Compensation Corporation) contracts in conjunction with Clinical Psychology services to the general public to date.
I am registered at the New Zealand Psychology Board (NZPB), Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), and Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as an independent practitioner in Clinical Psychology and am currently in full time Private Practice in Auckland.
